Now some of you may recall that I started pondering the possiblity of buying a Japanese 3DS LL (or XL for us westerners, but I'll continue to call it an LL since I'm talking about the Japanese version) back when the Pikachu yellow version was announced, and I have to admit that even though I didn't manage to snag one of those (believe me, I tried, and you can hear the gritty details in the upcoming Nichiest Podcast Ever), the whole ordeal has subsequently found me comitted to buying a 3DS LL sooner rather than later. Hell, I've even started contemplating what Japanese game I'll get with it!
I was nearly charmed into buying that gorgeous little pink x white 3DS LL, so this Animal Crossing limited edition came at just the right time. Releasing on November 11th and coming with a digital copy of Animal Crossing preloaded onto the SD card, this system is basically a sign from Nintendo that I am meant to purchase a 3DS LL before the end of the year. And purchase I shall, as long as there aren't crazy day one shortages like there were with the Pikachu 3DS LL!
But enough about me... what do you think of the Animal Crossing 3DS LL? Prefer the Mario one? Think they're both rubbish? I'm curious to know!
[UPDATE] And now that lovely Pikachu 3DS XL is coming out in Europe... Way to throw a wrench in my plans, Nintendo!!
I think it's rather cute, though I wouldn't buy it as I already have a DS and don't need another! I barely play the one I've got as it is :S.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to buy one, though, I would probably choose the Animal Crossing console over the others. Whilst the Pikachu and Mario consoles are more colourful and arty, I think the Animal Crossing DS has more character and a certain charm about it.
Do you prefer the Pikachu console over the Animal Crossing one Anne?
Billy – Oh, so you don't have a 3DS? I'm quite enjoying mine!
ReplyDeleteI personally think I actually prefer the Animal Crossing one a bit more than the Pikachu one! I like the simple, yet "elegant" design of the polka-dot pattern. I do like the bright colors on the Pikachu one, but maybe it's a tad too bright for my liking...
But now that Nintendo has announced that the Pikachu 3DS XL will be coming to Europe, I'm not sure what I'll do! Part of me really wants a Japanese 3DS, and this Animal Crossing one is utterly adorable, but another part of me wants to snag a PAL region 3DS because I get a lot of PAL copies of games (ah, the blessing/curse of being a game reviewer). Such tough decisions!
1. Nope, just got a regular DS Lite :).
ReplyDelete2. The Pikachu console is also very cute, but as you say, far too lairy I think! Though I wouldn't be disappointed if I was bought it for Christmas! :P.
3. Do you get games given to you for free Anne to do reviews on them?
P.S. Sorry to keep harping on about Ni No Kuni, but I have a question... As you speak Japanese, why don't you buy a Japanese copy instead of waiting til next year for its release?
Billy – I don't think I'd mind getting ANY 3DS XL for Christmas! Haha
ReplyDeleteAs for review copies, yes I do get some for free, but not all. It really depends on what kind of relationship VGW has with the various PR companies. Some are much harder to get in contact with than others, for whatever reason. For example, I just bought Tokyo Jungle the other day for a review :) Honestly I play a lot more "new" games now that I'm reviewing, so it's nice to get some of them for free. Buying new titles gets very expensive! (I generally purchase older/more obscure things with my pocket money)
And don't worry about asking about Ni no Kuni! I'm happy to talk about it. Well, I honestly didn't expect it to come out in English since the DS version didn't, and I generally like to support English releases when I can so similar titles might have a higher chance of being brought over in the future. Also, English versions are always much cheaper than their Japanese counterparts! Both of those reasons also apply to Tokyo Jungle, which I could've bought the Japanese version of, but decided to hold off and buy in English when I found out it was coming over.
But then there are some titles I'm super excited for that I just can't wait for them to come out in English! I remember buying Final Fantasy XIII day one when it came out in Japan for that very reason (it ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me, but that's a different story). Animal Crossing is also a game that I'm finding it hard to wait for, even just the Japanese version, which comes out next month!
How on earth did I miss this post? It slipped by me somehow... Anyway, you know I share your love of this system. I also like/love the pink-and-white LL, of course, but this one stirs my emotions even more so than the pink-and-white one, mainly because I absolutely adore the Animal Crossing series. (Fun fact: the first Animal Crossing is the game that brought me back into gaming after I'd somewhat walked away from it during my last few years in college.)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see which 3DS you end up with, BTW -- this one or the Pikachu one that was just announced for release in Europe. (Of course stupid ol' NOA has yet to announce any kind of LE/SE XL for North American release. Sigh.) Or maybe you'll pick up both of them when all is said and done? ;)
Bryan – No worries, it's hard to keep up sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Animal Crossing was the game that "brought you back" to gaming! That's so neat! Well, I have to say I'm very thankful to the series, then, as you probably wouldn't be running such a great blog without it :)
Well, I'm pretty sure my heart's set on owning at least this one, especially since I have it preordered and everything now. I definitely would like a PAL 3DS, but I don't know if I can swing getting *two* limited-edition consoles...
Funnily enough, I'm not as keen on the Pikachu design as I originally was, anyway! It's weird how sometimes your interest "cools off" with time ;)
Hello again :) Yep, Animal Crossing is, essentially, responsible for my blog. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI just remember reading about it online and thinking, "Oh, man, I *have* to play that!" I didn't buy it right off the bat, though; I waited until it was part of the Player's Choice series and then bought a copy of the game for $19.99 and a silver GC for $99. I took the day off of work when they arrived and spent the entire day playing the game. Ah, those were the days :)
Anyway, thank you for the nice words about my blog :) I think the same things about your awesome blog, of course!
I'm surprised to hear you've cooled a bit on the Pikachu LL, BTW. Why is that? Just doesn't appeal to you as much as it did before?
I have this sinking feeling that the only special edition XL that will make its way to NA will be the Mario one -- which, of course, is the one I like the least. Oh, well, as long as the pink-white one is released here at some point (preferably before Animal Crossing is released), I don't much care :)
